First of all, we noticed that the colours used were very dark and contrasting colours. This is generic in nearly every single DVD cover we saw and will be encorporated into our text. One cover very succesfully used 'funkier' more lively colours on their text, which is also something to consider when we produce our text. Other generic conventions of DVD covers were such things as having the band name, logo and band images on the front cover of the DVD. Iconic rock images and people were on front cover's, the stereotypical rockstar in a live event type images. These prooved to be very effective. One which was very effective at this was The Who's DVD cover with the Union Jack on it. Some covers used abstract combinations of images which produced a very effective front cover. A good example of this is the Pink Floyd front cover which used two eyes, on top of each other at a beach. Some cover's used ancient symbols, and mystical drawings to make the cover stand out. Mastodon are very good at using this effectively. Landscape images where used very effectively on some DVD cover's. All the DVD covers had the basic symbols, such as age rating, quality control labels, logos of the instituions which release the DVD etc. On the back of the covers, there was normally a picture of the band, and then some blurb next to it, to describe and promote the tour and DVD. They all feature a barcode.
